Move from Houston, TX to Austria - Review

Postby hubmchl » Mon Apr 10, 2017 2:50 pm

This site has been a great help during planning and executing our recent move from the United States (Houston, TX) to Austria, so I wanted to leave some feedback for others.

We followed the advice given in the International Move section and went with Rainier Overseas. We contacted Doug Wiviott directly and got an almost immediate response, explaining the next steps and which other companies would be involved. Their local agent in Houston was Atlantic Relocation Systems who quickly came by for an on-site appraisal and within a few days we had the proposal in our hands and decided to partner with Rainier.

Everything was very smooth after that – Atlantic sent an excellent crew to our house who did the packing as planned and tried their very best to get as much into the 20 ft container we decided to go with as physically possible. Once shipped, Doug kept us informed in regular intervals on the sailing schedule and the container arrived in Bremerhaven as planned.

Carl Hartmann was the handler in Germany, we had nothing to do with them directly. They sub-contracted with Gschwandtner GmbH in Austria, who got in touch with us proactively regarding the documents they needed for customs clearance and they also took care of the delivery. Their execution was flawless as well – they showed up with the container at our new home as planned and had a great crew performing unpacking and assembly. Everything arrived, not a single piece damaged.

All in all, working with Rainier Overseas and their partners was a great experience and we can wholeheartedly recommend the companies involved – they all proved to be honest and competent, providing excellent service. This was not our first move between Europe and North America, so we do know what we are talking about.
