Optios for Insurance

Postby dubaibye » Sun Aug 25, 2013 6:54 pm

I am relocating from Dubai back to the States and while we are happy with the quotes we received for the move the cost for the insurance seems very high.
Our estimated value for the goods was about $78,000 and the insurance cost they quoted was $2,700 - The Door to Door move is $11,400.

Do I have options? Does this seem high? Can I buy insurance elsewhere?

It seems like you are paying 3.5%. That does seem a little high, however marine insurance rates from the middle east are higher than from other regions. Is this with a $250 deductible? If so, it seems on the slightly high side of OK.

I suggest asking the shipping company if they can try to negotiate a better rate, either with the same deductible or with a higher deductible.

You can buy insurance elsewhere, but it is usually best to work with the carrier supplied by the shipping company.

Who is the shipping company, and who is the insurance carrier?

How do the competing quotes look, after adding in the cost of insurance?
