"You-load, We-move" search and sizing questions

Postby bradleyrose » Fri Aug 30, 2019 4:06 am

My wife and I are planning a move from San Jose, CA to Richmond, VA this summer. Due to cost (and the availability of cheap family labour), we are leaning very heavily towards the "you load, we ship" types of companies, and researched four with the following results:

ABF U-pack - MC029910
Appears reputable. Customer service experience seemed marginal. Not classified as a household goods carrier under DOT#.

Value-Moves - MC450353
Licensed broker, no insurance. From Florida.

ABF is a freight carrier, so you will be moving on a 27-foot freight trailer. When they first got into the U pack business, they were strictly using spring ride trailers. As the business grew, they switched to air ride trailers, which resulted in a much better ride with less damage.

If your move is a small one [you did not specify[, you could also opt for the ABF Relocube, which is a small container that will hold smaller shipments.
