MERRY CHRISTMAS to my industry friends and associates!

Postby NYCMover » Tue Dec 18, 2012 7:14 pm

Twas the night before Christmas,
we were moving our house,
not a creature was stirring,
not even a mouse.

The cartons were stacked
in the hallway with care,
in hopes that the movers
soon would be there.

The Dispatcher sang
different stories all day,
from “The truck broke down”
to “Hey, they’re on their way!”

Well, Ma put on her nightgown
and I my nightcap
and we had just settled down
for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the driveway,
My sleep thus disturbed
a twenty-inch tire crushed
my newly-paved curb.

Went away to the window
in time, just to look, as
three staggering helpers
stomped my wife’s prized bushes.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a smoking, old diesel grinding first gear,
with a driver so mean looking and paint job so hazy,
convinced me that U-Hauling wasn’t so crazy.

As rapid as turtles,
his helpers they came,
so he coughed and he belched,
then he called them by name:

“Hey, Gimpy, hey, Shaky,
get your butts over here!
Hey, Oopsie, get moving!
Ain’t I made myself clear?”

“Get the bags from the hallway,
chock open the doors!
Lay down some scrap boxes
and cover dem floors!”

So up the tight staircase,
those helpers they stumbled
with blankets and tie ropes
and arrogant mumbles.

The driver arrived
with an air of assurance
and forced me to sign
for extra insurance.

His eyes how they twinkled,
his dimples like berries,
he stunk of “Jack Daniels”
- no wonder he’s merry.

The butt of a Marlboro
held tight in his teeth,
the smoke, it encircled
his cap like a wreath.

They were skinny and smelled bad,
I thought what had I hired?
I hoped they could work,
because they surely looked tired.

They spoke not a word
but went straight to their work.
Filled the truck in four hours,
then turned with a jerk,

Revving up that old diesel
backing into the road,
he told me I must pay up
before they’d unload.

I protested mightily
but that didn’t matter.
He said, “We’ve got your TV
and couch for collateral!”

They shouted out as they drove,
Our whole life in their truck:
“If our tip ain’t a good one
you’ll be s**t out of luck!”

Merry Christmas to all and have a safe holiday.
For more information on moving or to file a complaint go to http://www.protectyourmove.gov

1..NEVER PAY A MOVER A DEPOSIT FOR INTERSTATE MOVING! IT COULD BE THE START OF THE BIG SCAM
2. GO WITH IN HOME ESTIMATES ONLY.
3. DO NOT USE A BROKER.

The DOT hotline was busy, was beeping,
The hold music got all the brunt of my bleeping.
So onto my laptop I went with a flash
Movingscam.com I typed, no dot and no dash.

The volunteers helped me understand my rights
They gave me the courage to put up a fight
When the movers arrived to unload they got shocks
Surrounded by people as they lay down their chocks.

One hundred ten percent! We shouted as one
Here's payment in money order, now get the job done!
The Weights & Measures rep flashed them his badge
You could tell by the shade of their faces they were mad.

But rather than facing down government goons
They took all our furniture into the rooms
Sure, they scuffed walls and dropped things down onto the floor
But at least all of our stuff made it through the door.

As they drove away seething with unsigned blank forms
We turned to return to our life as the norm.
With one last hurrah we recalled and we yipped
Not a one of us bothered to make sure they're tipped.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and since the world did not end on Friday, best wishes for a fantastic year in 2013. May all the movers have lots of business and make a profit. Do volume and profit still go together in the same sentence? Enjoy your holidays.
