**I need help and fast!!

Postby MSgirl » Mon Dec 15, 2008 7:24 pm

I am about 2 go crazy with this moving thing. I am on short time now so I may be stuck with who i have plans on going with. Here is my problem:

From reading the post i should go with Excel moving. They gave me a quote of 3000lbs at $2044. I want 2 move on Dec. 22nd, 2008 and my delivery date would be between January 1st and 10th 2009. That is just a long stretch for me when i move in on the 3rd.

The other company is DeHaven which isnt bad but isnt as good as the others. A consultant came out and gave me an estimate of $2600 at 4700 lbs and he did an at home estimate. And they would pick up on the 22nd and deliver between 2nd and 5th of January.

So is DeHaven's estmate more accurate that excel since he actually saw what i had?

What do i do? Y is moving this difficult?

Slow down... Where are you moving from and to? Which Excel did you talk to?

Yes, an on-site estimate will probably be more accurate than a phone one.

Excel moving and storage that is based with Allied. Is it ok that DeHaven is giving me a non-binding contract?

So would it be ok if I ask them a Not to exceed contract bc if my weight comes in lower than we thought my price should be lower correct?

So is their pricing of $2400 for abt 1200 miles with 4700 lbs sound kind of accurate?

And Im looking at the contract and I consider myself to be a smart person but this contract reads like a foreign language to me.

So basically they found a way 2 get over. That sure doesnt help the consumer. Thanks 4 ur help Rick. After coming here I jst became paranoid but now I think Im ok with DeHaven.

I jst didnt want them 2 get my stuff then they get there and its mostly damaged or charge me an additional enormous rate.

If its DeHavens Tfr & Stg (the one Im thinking it is) they are very reputable--Personally, I wouldnt go with one that doesnt do an inhouse survey--guaranteed price or not, there is usually a way for them to get around that.

No their protecting the driver, If a sales man is off on his estimate and you have a binding contract you only pay what you where told to pay, so say my sales man offers me your shipment, tells me it's 5000Lbs no problem it's going to eat up so much floor space in my truck, i'll need 1 Helper on load day. looks like this move will cover my fuel cost for the larger shipment.
Now I get to your house I see you own 8000 lbs of stuff. I took the job it's now my problem to solve. I only had the floor space for 5000, what to do with the other 3000 of items. I rent a smaller truck split your shipment into my large truck and a small rental, my helper now has to be paid to drive this truck behind me, I have to fuel up 2 trucks.. And when all expences are said and done I actually had to pay out money to move that shipment.

As a driver I am not out to rip off anyone. I deal with 3rd party accounts for 90% of my jobs. If anyone ever got caught adjusting shipment weights to make more money we would lose this contract and be out of work within a few weeks.

Ok they got here on time and they were very nice. They packed up my stuff and was out within 3 hrs or a little less. They made it 2 dallas on time and unloaded my things.

I only had 2 problems. 2 of the wheels on my tv stand were broken and my mirror that hangs over my dresser was broken. Im still unpacking but i think i have almost everything.

I might be missing a box or 2 but nothing major so far. Maybe a box with towels but that is easily replaced.

I will respond back once my claim has been processed and c how long it takes them to compensate me.
