Re: POD packing advice. Anyone packed a Pod before?

Thanks for the advice. I had heard conflicting advice on upending the sofa, etc. I have read it can be potentially damaging, but upending makes sense. The pod will not be in storage, so I am going to shrink wrap. Now about furniture pads... since they do not supply them, is there anyone knows of to g...

POD packing advice. Anyone packed a Pod before?

...or has anyone come across any internet links on how to pack one.. just in case my local movers are not familiar.. I would like to have the info, anyway. I am sure it's mainly common sense, but my stuff is going 3,000 miles.

Thanks!

Matt

Re: Moving to Spain - Need infor on car exports

Laurent... I am a car nut, and I know that US standards are -higher- than those in Europe. It is nearly impossible for someone here to buy a European car that is not already sold in the US and bring it here. We have higher safety and emissions standards. So not sure it would be hard to get your US c...

Re: Small move from NYC to the West Coast! HELP!!!

Newtocali... I am doing the reverse of your move..california to east coast.. and moving about the same amount of stuff...and all I can say is listen to Diane and MusicMom... An estimate based on CF is almost certainly a scam. If you want door to door, the minimum you are going to find out there from...

Re: City to City

I called City to City 3 different times and left 3 messages, each a bit more annoyed than the last, over a 2 week period, and no one ever bothered to call me back. I never take that as a good sign for customer service. So I had given up on the idea of pods at that point until I read about ABF's vers...

Re: ABF CONTAINER MOVE - be sure to call for the quote!

Yes. It's a terminal to terminal move.. so you have to pick it up on the other end, too. The difference is they give you a lockable container that is 5 x 7 x 8.... and that is loaded on the truck rather than using the bulkheads to separate your stuff from someone else's. Terminal to terminal is not ...

ABF CONTAINER MOVE - be sure to call for the quote!

If you have a small move like me, and can do a terminal-to-terminal move and are moving from a major urban area to another major urban area, you might be able to use ABF's new container service. You go to the terminal, load your container, lock it up, and they load it on the truck. They are really p...

Re: Small move - LA to FLL - suggestions?

Well, ABF is really pushing the containers! I got an online quote for $1200. Then I called and said, "I really only need 3 feet, maybe 4." And the quote guy told me $795 for 3 feet, and $195 per foot after that. I said I would do that, and he transferred me to the schedule person who said they reall...

Re: Small move - LA to FLL - suggestions?

Thanks Diane! I just sent ABF a quote request for their container service. I did their size estimator, and it came to 3 feet, so their site suggested that option. After I get the quote, I'll call and ask about options of plain terminal-to-terminal. My biggest fear is that I underestimate how much st...

Re: Small move - LA to FLL - suggestions?

So for terminal to terminal... I could hire a local mover to bring my stuff to the terminal...and then one on the other end? And just move what I need to move.... hmm, I have to check into that.

Re: Small move - LA to FLL - suggestions?

Thanks for the info Music Mom... Since I am new to this board, have their been many reports on the "pod people"? Where they drop that container off at your place, and you load it, and they come and load the container on a truck? I think one was called City to City moving, but I had trouble getting t...

Small move - LA to FLL - suggestions?

Thanks to this web site, I just found out the mover I chose (Ben Hur) is not reputable. So now I have to find a new one. I am going to be moving in with someone in Florida and had planned to sell most of my stuff. I only wanted to take the few pieces of furniture that are meaningful to me and clothe...
