Re: Best way to move storage unit items from FL to NY? Self, POD, movers??

If you opt to hire a full-service moving company, most will not give you a guaranteed price on a self storage unit, especially if they cannot see what's inside and/or how full it is. That said, I would recommend choosing 3-4 legitimate movers (nationally recognized van line agents with a proven trac...

Re: Interesting article on Moving

Our network (SIRVA) saw extreme growth in 2010, 23% on the consumer side, about 15% corporate and military was almost flat (2% growth) because they (wisely) didn't lowball the DP3 rates like most did and get subject to those 75% military moves that caused constraints on capacity and service failures...

Re: Interesting article on Moving

Good article, I'm sure (I bailed out after paragraph 3) but who moves "young adults"? If they do move, they have about 1,000 lbs. They probably represent less than 5% of total industry revenue due to the size of their shipments and lack of frequency. Our biggest demographic is a 40+ homeowner with k...

Re: $799 long distance moving

We buy leads from a couple of the find a mover websites. I noticed that a few of the people I had called recently mentioned that they had clicked on a link that said "$799 for long distance moving" so they about passed out when I give them a ballpark price for a real mover. I found the add after se...

The Movers - Tampa

Don't use The Movers in Tampa....they allegedly held someone's goods hostage after increasing the cost of the move from $1,400 to $3,400.

Re: Laws or regulations on cubic-foot measurements for moves

Yes, very well said. There is no motivation for the driver who is loading a per-cubic-foot shipment, to load tightly. Yet the driver who gets paid by how much weight he (or she) had on the truck is sure to try and get as much weight on the truck.

Re: BBB and the Moving Industry

Yeah Archie hit the nail on the head, as did Cnoblit. We join out of necessity and do what we can to maintain our A+ rating. It's like some kind of bizarro legalized mafia scheme. Either you pay or you get a poor rating. We just pay and accept that there's no way around it. Our competition is too he...

I second Rick's recommendation. Joe Baluja (Paul Arpin Van Lines) runs a legitimate company. His brother is my company's insurance agent.

Re: **Don Farr Moving

Keeps me up at night too. Many people think we just move stuff from place to place and charge way too much for doing so, but that's the tip of the iceberg. The true costs are associated with the assumption of this type of risk.
