Re: Refusing to pay bill - threatened with collections

It's simple contract law. If you don't pay the bill, the contract is void and this mover, no matter how disgraceful this company is, gets to walk. If you pay, you now have performed your end of the bargain and automatically have standing to sue or force them to perform (i.e adjust the claim).

Re: We are the ambassadors of the reputable movers

It's our duty, and our pleasure, to serve those that need guidance. The law primarily uses the notion of "consumer" in relation to consumer protection laws, and the definition of consumer is often restricted to living persons (i.e. not corporations or businesses) and excludes commercial users. A sit...

Re: What is "the Mover's Contract?"

You can split hairs all day long - when a customer signs an order for service, they are scheduling their move. While technically not a contract, it is a document "contracting" services for a move. While you could argue there's a verbal contract in place, there's no obligation on the customer to per...

Re: An interesting sales approach

Classic sleazeball sales tactic. Sounds very similar to my recent experience in getting a proposal for some industry-related software. I won't name the company's name, but let's just say they are a well known provider of software to moving companies. The proposal was for a dollar amount well over si...

Re: I got scammed

Yeah, get the lawyers involved, that'll work. When the smoke clears, nobody but the lawyers will be ahead at the end. The only difference between a dead skunk in the road and a dead lawyer in the road, is there are skid marks in front of the skunk. Archie, I resemble that remark! (By the way, what ...

Re: Princeton, NJ to Baltimore, any recs?

We do a lot of work with Apollo Moving (North American Van Lines) in Somerset. They handle surveys for our national account customers in the Central Jersey area and always do a good job for us.

Re: Delay claim – North American Van Lines

Off the top of my head delay claim reimbursement is set at $125 per day and 50% of meals for each day the shipment is late due to the fault of the carrier. Mechanical failures, acts of God, etc are not the fault of the carrier. This is standard across the industry.

Re: storing everything for 12 to 16 months

Yes, I know Crown. NateS, it sounds like you will be looking at 1-2 vaults + 2 couch rack positions per month. Couches should not be stored in a vault due to the potential for dents caused by pressure from objects sitting on top of them. Most companies will charge around $30-$50 per vault for storag...

Re: storing everything for 12 to 16 months

Go to Google and read the reviews on both Crown and Air Van. Make sure they are both willing to send someone to your home to physically survey your household goods. PODS typically is cheaper, but you have to do all the work yourself and you are responsible if anything breaks.

Re: Mayflower stole my stuff TWICE!

Sorry to hear of your experience. My suggestion would be next time (if there is a next time) ask your estimator if his/her agency uses certified/background checked labor. I'm not saying it would have prevented these thefts, but it signifcantly reduces the chances when you are dealing with someone wi...
