Re: Reloc + long-term storage - advice?

Archie is right, we do storage access all the time. My warehouseman would be overpaid if we didn't!! Now you do pay to get in there, but you have helpers to work alongside you. Also, if you anticipate that there are specific things you would want over the storage period, mark accordingly and tell yo...

Re: Reloc + long-term storage - advice?

Have you gotten a quote from a full service mover? Many will make deals where storage is involved. It's definitely worth consideration! I know that locally, we beat PODS in storage rates. Yes, the moving is a bit more. However when you are storing that long, the lower storage rates compensate for th...

Re: Chicago to Durham -- Ferree, Prager, Graebel?

You might consider another van line, rather than getting two quotes from North American agents. I'm not familiar with the market there, but is there an Allied or Mayflower agent?

Prager is great too, I'm just suggesting you diversify your choices.

Re: Will this moving season end early?

Archie, just working to diversify away from domestic and local HHG, cutting staff and owner's salaries, looking at every single expense and seeing how we could cut it. Just re-examined the Blackberries because who really needs them? Salesmen can do just as well with a cell phone, and we can't handle...

Re: Delivery will be late... who pays storage?

Have you talked to NAVL corporate customer service? I would verify with them, but typically if you were available EVERY day of the delivery spread and then had to leave town, they should absorb the storage and re-delivery. I would get in touch with them ASAP. They also may choose to leave the shipme...

Re: Will this moving season end early?

Lee, I think only military movers are having a busy summer here. Ours is WAY off from last year. June was barely a blip compared to other years, and in July - this week I have a salesman with only two appointments. Normal summer weeks usually have 15 to 20. So in our neck of the woods, there isn't a...

Re: Any one moved by hiring Drivers and renting a Truck

This is how STS Movers is performing moves now. Renting a truck one way, and flying back from the destination.

Don said he's doing it coast to coast now. Must be that since local business is so bad in California, it's worth leaving it for a few days to do this sort of move.

I would also suggest you contact the Los Angeles City Attorney's office. Move Rescue will help you quicker with this immediate situation, but the City Attorney's office may get involved for the Van Nuys outfit.

Re: Los Angeles to Ann Arbor, MI moving question

Archie, Maybe the sales rep stuck around to answer questions and educate the consumer on the process.

I don't see how that can be such a bad thing, to be available to the customer.

Re: Please recommend a company

I would suggest you contact Golden Eagle (United), Burgess Moving (North American) and Canyon City (Allied) for in home estimates.

That would give you a good variety of three major van lines, and you can go from there.

Re: Los Angeles to Ann Arbor, MI moving question

You didn't mention if all of these quotes are guaranteed or non-binding? Also, is there a difference in service (ie dates) for any of them? Overall, you can't go wrong with any of the three. It comes down to a confidence and trust with the sales rep and/or the local agency. Which United agent is it?

Re: Delancey Street Foundation and STS Movers

How does STS do it? Fly a crew to NYC and then drive a rental truck back?

How about getting the pads, straps and materials to the rental truck?

Re: Sterling vanlines California

Mayflower certainly is a good choice too. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. Regarding Sterling's long delivery, this is because they consolidate shipments until they have enough to fill a truck. Mayflower would have the same issue. Now, you can certainly get lucky and get paired up w...
