Re: ABF container/POD move - be careful!! And the move so fa

HOORAY - My partner opened the trailer today, and he said the hardest part of the pick up was removing the barrier. Apparently my stuff did not shift at all, and nothing was dirty or damaged. The movers he hired, backed up their truck to the back of the trailer, and it was transferred in about 25 mi...

Re: ABF container/POD move - be careful!! And the move so fa

I did confirm that the price for my move turned out to be only $575. So my misfortune worked in my favor - as long as my stuff survived in that ratty truck Upack called my partner two days ago and said the truck would be in Miami on Thursday. That was the first estimate I was given, too, at the star...

Re: City to City Moving: CA to NY, are they good?

OK, faced with the exact same dilemma, I would suggest doing a terminal to terminal move with ABF. I did finally speak to someone at City to City and they just came off as "smarmy". My City to City quote was $1700 for L.A. to Fort Lauderdale. And then hire local movers on each end to get your stuff ...

Re: ABF container/POD move - be careful!! And the move so fa

My helpers were $75/hr for 4 hours.. so $300. I think it should have been a 3 hour job.. but that's how it goes. And yes, no matter what, I will still save over Movex, Uhaul, BE, etc. My biggest concern remains the condition of that particular trailer, and just being more worried in general about my...

Re: ABF container/POD move - be careful!! And the move so fa

I am still trying to get through to someone at upack about my price.. yesterday their mainframes were down. I am on hold with them as I type this. However, if I pay for 4 linear feet, it would be the $990. What I meant was that my stuff would have fit within the 3 linear feet on the trailer (as orig...

Re: BULLETIN - Phone service down in central Illinois

I can tell you from my experience at the ABF terminal in LA, that the people there have no real idea of the household goods operation. All questions I had during my move were basically referred to the main office/toll free number. When I had my hiccup with the container and had to switch to using th...

Re: Cheap Boxes?

I used Box City here in L.A., and found their pricing very competitive, and no need to buy so many in a bundle. They have a website and an online store as well. www.boxcity.com They sell all the specialty boxes, plus any of the supplies you would need such as mattress bags, stretch wrap, foam, etc. ...

Re: ABF container/POD move - be careful!! And the move so fa

Actually I should clarify about the 3 linear feet. I used their space calculator at their website, and it came up with the 3 linear feet, but then it (the website) suggested I try the container. When I called for pricing, the container was a lot more expensive than the 3 linear feet, so I was just g...

ABF container/POD move - be careful!! And the move so far...

Well today was moving day.. and I had a couple of problems. First, the local guys I hired were not exactly quick.. In under 1 hour, everything was down from my apartment and on the street waiting to load on the truck.. and somehow it took another hour to load those last few feet eventhough they had ...

Re: Checking on a California license number

Thanks for the help guys! A good friend has recommended someone to me here in LA. A man a truck and a helper kind of thing.... Makes me a bit nervous, but I trust my friend and he swears they did a great job. It's $75/hour and he will bill in half hour increments... wish me luck! This weekend I am p...

Re: Checking on a California license number

I have called California PUC several times, and always get the "leave a message" recording, and then another recording saying "mailbox full"... I had already thought I would go with mightymovers.com based upon my conversation with them... but had not checked the BBB. Did that today, and they have a ...

Checking on a California license number

The local mover I was going to use seems to no longer be in business.. I have several I want to call for estimates.. is there a web site where I can run their CA license numbers. They all start with a "T". THANKS The three movers are: Mighty Movers T189200 (which quoted me $59.50 per hour plus somet...

Re: POD packing advice. Anyone packed a Pod before?

Thanks for all the great info! Through work I have access to lots of boxes, and I plan to use www.boxcity.com for the specialty stuff like the wardrobe and kitchen and mirrors and some of the big boxes for clothes... You can order on -line but their store is in West LA near the Westside Pavillion. M...
