Re: NEGATIVE Review of DARYL FLOOD (failed move attempt; horrible experienc

I've got to side with Mr. Brill and Archie here. If a mover loads an international-bound container (sea container, lift van, D-Container, etc.) without verifying what's inside any PBO (Packed By Owner) boxes, there could be some significant consequences. Also, tools, hardware, sand, etc. make for he...

Re: Confused about insurance

The issue here isn't whether you can (or should) "buy insurance". You can't buy insurance as we're not licensed to sell insurance. HOWEVER, the issue is whether you must declare a value of your shipment, and the answer to this is yes. We carry $250K on each truck, so $50K sounds a bit low, but if it...

Re: Morgantown, WV to Tampa, FL - One bedroom Need help

FYI, most full service movers affiliated with a major van line now offer some kind of container service. I've analyzed the pricing and the van lines are consistently just under or just over PODS and you don't have to wrap, load or unload AND you don't have to assume 100% of the liability for cargo d...

Re: Typical Weight Allowance Credit per CWT

Lots of factors go into the rate of reduction for a not-to-exceed household goods quote. I am not positive, but my understanding is that these are set rates built into the tariff. I have seen everything from the high teens to the low 30s. I belive the origin, destination, weight and dates (possibly ...

Re: First time moving interstate (WI to VA), need advice!!

If you go with Mayflower, make them give you a "Not-to-Exceed" estimate. That way, if it indeed weights around 2,800 lbs, you pay for 2,800 lbs. Don't do a "Binding" quote as the price is the price - no reduction if actual weight is lower than estimated weight.

Re: ARE YOUR GOODS BEING SHIPPED BY RAIL?

NYC hit the nail on the head......it's a byproduct of the driver shortage. Often a driver will have to divert several tens or hundreds of miles to pick up a 1,000 lb shipment that he may net a few hundred bucks on......if there's one heavy or awkward piece, he needs to spend $50-$100 on labor for lo...

Re: Allied Shipping by Air Freight?

North American Van Lines is doing the same thing (same parent company as Allied), it's called Blue Express. My understanding is that United and Mayflower are doing the same thing. It should greatly increase transit times.

Re: Hey pros, is it just me?

We've had a handful of these over the years. We always get the police involved and/or request the crew AND the shipper to submit to a lie detector test. If the police report stating that there's not enough evidence to proceed isn't enough, the lie detector request usually quashes these frivolous cla...

Re: 2 Days Before Scheduled Move of 20,000 lbs Atlas cancels on us!!!! OMG

I have to disagree on the well paying part Diane. I hear drivers all day long saying that they would rather have 5 -6 small shipments than one large one, because it takes up more than half of the van, and the linehaul may look good on paper, but in reality it doesn't go into their pocket as it's wr...

Scotty,

If you are still looking for alternatives, check out Nelson North American. I just moved a CEO from Los Angeles to Tampa and worked closely with this fellow North American Agent. They did a great job in handling origin services for us.

Re: White Lion, Boca Raton, Florida

It stems back to the hey day of the citrus era. Most consumer complaints were related to produce. It's now the "Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services". My understanding is that White Lion is about to close. That could be a rumor, but I have seen a lot of their equipment for sale on...
