Re: DELANCEY STREET MOVERS COMES THRU!!!!

The other full service mover (who does have good reviews on this site) said they could not use a full size truck on my street. So that I'd have to pay nearly $450 for them to "shuttle" my things to another truck. I didn't really think that was necessary so I called Delancey in for one last quote (th...

Re: HELP - BEST QUALITY MOVERS IN CALIFORNIA

Next time Call Delancey STreet Movers. I was quoted $1790 and it costs $1748. they do cross country not just in Calif. I still am in awe of how well things went. moving is stressful enough but then to have to deal with broken things and movers holding your stuff hostage for extra payments as you men...

Re: DELANCEY STREET MOVERS COMES THRU!!!!

yes you made a couple of valid points. 1. ABF U pack was only slightly lower and I didn't really understand why plus you have to do all the loading and unloading and wrapping and rent blankets and on and on. didn't make any sense to me for a few hundred dollars. 2. the 'shuttle' charges were because...

Re: Moving Insurance

moving insurance FULL REPLACEMENT VALUE is worth it. you can file a claim immediately once your things arrive. most PROFESSIONAL companies will help you through the process. if you have particle board furniture...don't insure it. most companies won't anyway. but the last thing to try and "save" mone...

DELANCEY STREET MOVERS COMES THRU!!!!

I had never moved interstate before so I read a LOT of posts on this site before calling in for 4 estimates. I lived in LA and moved to the Midwest (for now). I checked out all of the prospective movers through the LA BBB and all checked out good. I received a wide range of estimates, but Delancey S...

Re: FlatRate Moving Systems Santa Moncia, CA?

I also had a bid from Flat Rate and Delancey. I decided to go with delancey because they came in a a weight that I thought was pretty darned accurate. The estimators were EARLY and very curteous and returned my calls and faxes promptly. they are picking up this coming tuesday and I"ll update this si...

Re: Delancey Street Moving

I have decided to go with Delancey because they were the most curteous, and responsive and i think right on the money for the estimate. they have returned my calls every time and faxed me over the appropriate paperwork as asked. Pay for move up front?

I see that some movers only take cashier's checks or money orders. What's typical? to pay for the move AFTERyou get your stuff or are you required to pay up front?

thanks

Re: "Shuttle" Charges

PMueller thanks for a great, factual overview. for those of us that have not done INTER-state moves it's been quite a learning experience. I have only lived in CALIF for the most part and this is my first INTERstate move. All of the other moves I've made have been based solely on hourly rates. I hav...

Re: "Shuttle" Charges

Great advice Nancy. I appreciate you offering some good knowledge. I dno't know much about the moving process or tariff's or charges, which is why I'm here. With everyone telling me to "chill out" or move things myself doesn't help with understanding the process. If I"m paying good money I'd like to...

Re: "Shuttle" Charges

The entire point of these forums is to get helpful information and have others share their experiences so each of us are not "shooting in the dark here" or hiring movers with poor service or just plain bad ethics. And to learn something as well. The reason I mentioned HOURLY is because of local move...

Re: "Shuttle" Charges

I see that many people are making valid points. Because the moving industry is not regulated per se, it seems like anything goes. Just whatever the market will bear. The lowest estimate I have gotten so far is Flat Rate Movers, but I hear they are great on the RIGHT coast and not that experienced on...
